New Greetings Cards

I have been busy drawing and printing new card designs. The jade green colour on some of the birds is metallic and printed so well! I generally mix my own colours so it was an absolute treat to buy some pre-mixed! I spent a stupidly long time choosing them in the  Fred Aldous art shop, whilst trying to avert my eyes from all the other lovely things.

They are in my shop now and I am hoping they bring some summery colour your way.

Kingfisher cards

Lately I have been drawing lots and trying to get a range of cards together that I am happy with. This seems to take me a while; first I have to be happy with the drawing, then I have to hope my screenprint of said drawing works and then I have to be happy with the finished result, including choice of colour, paper etc….you get the picture.

And so here are my new Kingfisher cards (that I am actually pleased with)…phew, it feels nice to say that.

I start with drawing in biro…

Then screenprint them on recycled card…

Botanical Gardens, Edinburgh

Well the beginning of March has been a real hibernation for me so far as I have got a bug that is really outstaying its welcome.  Anyway needless to say I haven’t done much work but I have finally sorted out my photographs and drawings from the Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh. So a bit of flower therapy to help me on my way. I hope they brighten up your March too. I have heard it has been raining.

All the cats I have known..part 3

Quite a while ago I started a project called”all the cats I have known” as I wanted to record my feline friends past and present.I am hoping to combine little stories about them with illustrations.I have really struggled with whether to draw the cats realistically or stylised. I initially went for realism but they seemed so laboured and not what I wanted at all. Anyhoo here are some screen printed cats that began as drawings which I am finally, finally happy with. I hope you like them!

All the cats I have known

I am beginning a new project called “All the cats I have known”. It has been on my mind for a while and so I have begun!

Odie drawing

This is Odie. He ruled any neighbourhood he moved to. I once saw him square up to two Rottweilers. He was a legend and I miss him still.

billy drawing

This is Billy. He loves cuddles, his chin tickled and water served at room temperature. He never washes; he is above such chores. He always makes me feel better if I am feeling blue.

Billy was really hard to draw and I am still not sure about this one..so I may try again!

I am hoping to make these illustrations into a screen printed book. I have quite a few more cats to draw.I will post my progress on here, it has been nice already to record these memories.
